Research Focus

Dr Prasad Patnaik specializes in the development of tools for fluid-structure-interaction (FSI) in Fluid-Thermal systems. His group has worked on wide spectrum of fluid-structure interaction problems ranging from the dynamics of wakes past bluff bodies to flow through the human circulatory systems. In the past, algorithms have been developed to control the self-excited nature of flow past bodies and resulting flow induced vibrations (FIV). The focus has been on problems such as, blast loading of structures (using smooth particle hydrodynamics - SPH) to micro-flow simulations using dissipative particle dynamics (DPD). Of late, his group is interested in analyzing problems of clinical interest to problems involving arterial wall coupling to study the dynamics of blood flow. Current focus is on cardiovascular flows and associated patient-specific disorders, surgical planning and development of biomedical devices.
